The first two alpha releases did force a complex password, but several voices cried out against this. This was the compromise for those of us that wanted the higher security and those that didn't . I think we all agreed on a similar solution to what you recommended, but I think that this is actually best. I just see some company's lawyer going after Adobe because they allowed "development" to be chosen, but the server placed in production.

Thanks for the feedback. CFWheels is a very interesting looking project - it seems to have the powerplicity (power+simplicity) of RoR, and it seems to be very well documented, something that ColdBox has done a killer job at. I need to identify a situation where I can use it in a way where I can afford the learning curve (I tend to fall back to ColdBox, in the same that I'm jazzed about node.js, but time and efficiency constraints have me turning to ColdFusion every time)

Oh, as for ORM, CFWheels has a built in on based on active record. It is killer with nest properties and other features.

initmethod is used to used a constructor method name other than init() - see my first example, ConstructorTest.cfc (I wouldn't recommend it though - a number of auto-wire frameworks depend on the init() name)

I have a init method in my cfc which has access="private" property.
Also i have the initmethod="init" property in cfcomponent.

If I create the object via

x = new X()

Syntax it does not work.

I get the message: "The method init was not found in component"

Only if I set access="public" to my init method, the method will be called automatically. Thats nice, but then why there is the attribute initmethod in cfcomponent?

Interesting post! It allowed me to test your conclusion rather than working it out for myself from scratch. I'm very happy about the "x = new X()" syntax in ColdFusion, and calling the init constructor automatically is just awesome, and the way it should be.

Over on my end, I'm finally able to write CF9-compliant code, and I'm using Railo to do it.
